Release Date: 2013-06-29
Genre: Mathematics

The purpose of this book is to provide a complete year's course in mathematics for those studying in the engineering, technical and scientific fields. The material has been specially written for courses lead ing to (i) Part I of B. Sc. Engineering Degrees, (ii) Higher National Diploma and Higher National Certificate in techno logical subjects, and for other courses of a comparable level. While formal proofs are included where necessary to promote understanding, the emphasis throughout is on providing the student with sound mathematical skills and with a working knowledge and appreciation of the basic con cepts involved. The programmed structure ensures that the book is highly suited for general class use and for individual self-study, and also provides a ready means for remedial work or subsequent revision. The book is the outcome of some eight years' work undertaken in the development of programmed learning techniques in the Department of Mathematics at the Lanchester College of Technology, Coventry. For the J1ast four years, the whole of the mathematics of the first year of various Engineering Degree courses has been presented in programmed form, in conjunction with seminar and tutorial periods. The results obtained have proved to be highly satisfactory, and further extension and development of these learning techniques are being pursued. Each programme has been extensively validated before being produced in its final form and has consistently reached a success level above 80/80, i. e.

Essential Physics for Manual Medicine E Book

Author: Martin Ferrier Young
Publisher: Elsevier Health Sciences
ISBN: 9780702050022
Release Date: 2009-09-16
Genre: Medical

A textbook that covers Physical concepts at a basic level for manual therapists specifically . Clinicians in general and manual therapists in particular have a need tounderstand certain, specific aspects of physics to an advanced level. However, many lack prior education in this area, with chemistry and biology 'A' levels being emphasized in terms of entrance requirements. Most textbooks aimed at this field concentrate exclusively on the physics underpinning biomechanics, but the level at which these books are pitched is often too high to allow understanding by students who have an inadequate background in the subject. This book acts, in part, as a primer to address this deficit. Students are also required to understand the basic physics underpinning physiology, biochemistry, radiography and therapeutics. This textbook will be a guide to these specialist areas of knowledge. This text will cover biophysics as a core subject to guide the potential clinician from total ignorance to complete mastery in the areas of physics pertinent to manual medicine and its related disciplines.

Geophysical Data Analysis Understanding Inverse Problem Theory and Practice

Author: Max A. Meju
Publisher: SEG Books
ISBN: 9781560802570
Release Date: 1994
Genre: Geophysics

This publication is designed to provide a practical understanding of methods of parameter estimation and uncertainty analysis. The practical problems covered range from simple processing of time- and space-series data to inversion of potential field, seismic, electrical, and electromagnetic data. The various formulations are reconciled with field data in the numerous examples provided in the book; well-documented computer programmes are also given to show how easy it is to implement inversion algorithms.

Advanced Modern Engineering Mathematics

Author: Glyn James
Publisher: Pearson Education
ISBN: 0130454257
Release Date: 2004
Genre: Technology & Engineering

Building on the foundations laid in the companion text "Modern Engineering" "Mathematics "3e," "this book gives an extensive treatment of some of the advanced areas of mathematics that have applications in various fields of engineering, particularly as tools for computer-based system modelling, analysis and design.Despite the advanced level of this text, the philosophy of learning by doing is retained, with continuing emphasis on the development of students' ability to use mathematics with understanding to solve engineering problems. Key features of this new edition: New design in a larger format highlighting new student features Additional graded examples and exercises Increased emphasis on software packages, particularly symbolic algebra packages. Particular emphasis on use of MATLAB and MAPLE, with basic commands introduced and illustrated More emphasis on numerical methods such as the treatment of finite elements Updated Solutions Manual, a downloadable resource for lecturers Professor Glyn James is currently Emeritus Professor within the School of Mathematical and Information Sciences at Coventry University, having previously been Dean of the School. As in previous editions he has drawn on the relevant knowledge and experience of his fellow co-authors to provide an excellent new edition.
