Genre: History

After being seriously wounded in the 1939 Polish campaign, Rochus Misch was invited to join Hitler's SS-bodyguard. There he served until the war's end as Hitler's bodyguard, courier, orderly and finally as Chief of Communications. On the Berghof terrace he watched Eva Braun organize parties; observed Heinrich Himmler and Albert Speer; and monitored telephone conversations from Berlin to the East Prussian FHQ on 20 July 1944 after the attempt on Hitler's life. Towards the end Misch was drawn into the FÙhrerbunker with the last of the 'faithful'. As defeat approached, he remained in charge of the bunker switchboard as his duty required, even after Hitler committed suicide. Misch knew Hitler as the private man and his position was one of unconditional loyalty. His memoirs offer an intimate view of life in close attendance to Hitler and of the endless hours deep inside the bunker; and provide new insights into military events such as Hitler's initial feelings that the 6th Army should pull out of Stalingrad. Shortly before he died Misch wrote a new introduction for this first-ever English-language edition. The book also contains new introduction by Roger Moorhouse.

At the age of twenty-two, she became private secretary to Adolf Hitler and served him for two and a half years, right up to the very end. Junge observed the intimate workings of Hitler’s administration: She typed his correspondence and speeches—including Hitler’s public and private last will and testament—and ate her meals and spent evenings with him. She was close enough to hear the bomb intended to assassinate Hitler in the Wolf’s Lair—and to smell the bitter almond odor of Eva Braun’s cyanide pill in Hitler’s bunker and ultimate tomb. Release Date: 2010-02-19
Genre: History

Erich Kempka served as HitlerÍs personal driver from 1934 through to the FÙhrerÍs dramatic suicide in 1945. His candid memoirs offer a unique eyewitness account of events leading up to and during the war, culminating in those dark final days in the FÙhrer's headquarters, deep under the shattered city of Berlin. He begins by describing his duties as a member of HitlerÍs personal staff in the years preceding the war, driving the FÙhrer throughout Germany and abroad, and accompanying him to rallies. The crux of his memoirs however covers his life with Hitler in the Berlin FÙhrerbunker. During this time he was responsible for a transport fleet of cars, and often drove the likes of Speer or Kesselring on inspection tours to the hot spots on the front; and in March 1945, he accompanied the FÙhrer to his final front-inspection tour. Kempka was also present when news came through of G_ring and HimmlerÍs efforts to seize power and negotiate a truce with the Western Allies. Crucially, Kempka also witnessed HitlerÍs marriage to Eva Braun, and his last dinner and personal farewell to all those present, before he and his wife committed suicide. HitlerÍs final order to Kempka was that he have ready enough petrol to burn him and his wife. Under constant Soviet artillery fire, Kempke, Linge and others poured petrol over the bodies and burnt them. The account concludes with KempkaÍs hazardous escape out of a burning Berlin more than 800 km through enemy-occupied Germany, home to find his wife at BE. There he was arrested by American C.fI.C. personnel and interrogated before being sent to serve as a witness at Nuremburg.

This is the personal account of a Luftwaffe aide always at HitlerÕs side from 1937 until the last days in Berlin, now published for the first time in English. Nicolaus von Below was a 29-year-old pilot when Goering selected him for the position of HitlerÕs Luftwaffe adjutant. He was with Hitler at every stage as the Second World War unfolded. His observations tell of HitlerÕs responses to momentous events as well as military decisions and policy-making at FŸhrer Headquarters. This is a superb source describing life in HitlerÕs inner circle, relied upon on by Gitta Sereny in her biography of Albert Speer. He provides fascinating insight into how Hitler planned the invasions of Poland and Russia, what he thought of Britain and America, why he placed his faith in the V-1 and V-2 projects, how others dealt with him, and much more. Von Below was present at the assassination attempt in July 1944, and records the effect on Hitler and his followers. Von Below was the last of HitlerÕs close military entourage to emerge from the bunker alive. His frank memoir will appeal to anyone interested in how Hitler ran his war. I Was Hitler s Pilot

Author: Hans Baur
Publisher: Frontline
ISBN: 1848326963
Release Date: 2013
Genre: Biography & Autobiography

A decorated First World War pilot, Hans Baur was one of the leading commercial aviators of the 1920s. In 1932 he was engaged by a certain 'Herr Hitler' to fly him on a lightening election tour – and with that, Flight Captain Baur, a man with little interest in politics, was pitched into the thick of it. He was subsequently appointed 'Captain of Hitler's Flight' personally flying the Führer and his VIP visitors around the world. Hitler, who loathed flying, felt safe with Baur and would allow no one else to pilot him. As a result, an intimate relationship developed between the two men and it is this which gives these memoirs special significance. Hitler relaxed in Baur's company and talked freely of his intensions and of his real opinions about his friends and allies. Baur was also present during some of the most salient moments of the Third Reich; the Röhm Putsch, the advent of Eva Braun, Ribbentrop's journey to Moscow, the Bürgerbräukeller attempt on Hitler's life; and when war came, he flew Hitler from front to front. He remained in Hitler's service right up to the final days in the Führerbunker. In a powerful account of Hitler's last hours, Baur describes his final discussions with Hitler before his suicide; and his last meeting with Magda Goebbels in the tortuous moments before she killed her three children. Remarkably throughout it all Baur's loyalty to the Führer never wavered. His memoirs capture these events in all their fascinating and disturbing detail.

As official 'court' photographer, Heinrich Hoffmann played a critical role in the painstaking cultivation of Hitler's public image and the glorification of the Third Reich. However, his influence stretched far beyond the realm of propaganda. Not only was he present during many of the key moments in the history of the Third Reich - he was also a close, personal friend of the Führer with exclusive and intimate access to Hitler's inner circle and to the man himself. It was Hoffmann who introduced Hitler to Eva Braun, his studio assistant. He took over two million photographs of Hitler and published several books including The Hitler Nobody Knows (1933). At the end of the war, Hoffmann was arrested by the US military, who seized his photographic archive, and was sentenced to imprisonment for Nazi profiteering. His memoirs are a crucial eyewitness source for the historian and general reader alike, offering an illuminating glimpse of the dictator's personality and a remarkable, behind-the-scenes account of the Nazi regime. This edition includes a new Introduction by Roger Moorhouse.
