The premise of this book is that knowledge work – knowledge sharing and creating – takes place all the time, every day, routinely and pervasively in people’s talk and text, or discourse. Organizations are viewed as social entities where discourse cuts across all boundaries, cultures, disciplines, and actions. The author approaches discourse as the core of knowledge work, and the site to which knowledge management practice should be focused. The book uses real-life case studies to show how the analysis of discourse can reveal ‘knowledge games’. From this methodological perspective, discourse is shown to be constructive and action-oriented: people accomplish functional, consequential actions with their talk. Analysis of discourse reveals knowledge work in practice as psychological phenomena with function and effect, and steeped in context. The aim is to enable and support practitioners and leaders in the development and implementation of more effective strategies and practices in leveraging knowledge in their organizations.

There is intensified interest in designing information and communication technologies (ICTs) that respond to ways of doing, knowing, and saying that differ from those that dominate in producing ICTs and, in particular, to ‘traditional’ or ‘indigenous’ knowledges. ICT endeavours for indigenous or traditional knowledges (ITK) vary. Some aim to extend ITK digitally and others use ICTs to improve the economic and/or political situation of marginalised groups. This book presents themes that arise in designing to respond to ITK in different cultural, social, physical, and historical contexts.
During the period covered by this volume, Bertrand Russell first retired from and then resumed his philosophical career. In 1927 he published two philosophy books, The Analysis of Matter and An Outline of Philosophy. His next book in academic philosophy, An Inquiry into Meaning and Truth, was not published until 1940. Yet, Russell published a significant amount of essays and popular books between 1927 and 1946, mostly to finance the running of Beacon Hill School, and his growing family. Those years also saw his break-up with Dora Russell, his marriage to Patricia (Peter) Spence and a move of the family to the United States. Volume 10 brings together Russell's writings on ethics, politics, religion and academic philsophy. It is an invaluable guide to the thought and development of one of the most famous philosophers of this century.
