"Crabapple Blossoms" draws you into the warm rhythms of Georgia farm life as the Depression came and went. Grace Smith and Sue Hunter skillfully capture the sounds and sights of tobacco cultivation and harvest, games children played using only their imaginations, humorous interactions with family and friends, country church services and funerals for pets. the sisters' account of a time at Berry College illustrates the unique nature of the school where sewing and tractor driving could be part of earning tuition--of a place where young people from farm families could learn skills and earn degrees that would open a new world to them. the stories of teaching school vividly present the problems in the days of few standards, a front row seat for what racial integration meant and some frank--and sometimes sardonic--observations of the often illogical curriculum reforms that will be familiar to anyone who taught or sat in a classroom during the last half century. "In 'Crabapple Blossoms,' Grace Smith and Sue Hunter bring the world of girlhood days on a Georgia tobacco farm, college days at Berry and teaching careers to life. with humor, honesty and style, they tell a unique story--one that captures the changing South in context of school, church and family." --W. As the divinely inspired Word of God, the primary purpose of the Bible is to probe the depths of the human heart more skillfully and purposefully than any surgeon could possibly imagine. With this in mind, my intent in New Beginnings is to follow the riveting narratives of Genesis and Acts with a primary emphasis on the devotional and inspirational elements. From a Christian perspective, I cannot imagine four beginnings with more historical significance than those emphasized in these two informative books: (1) the creation of the world with all its living things, (2) the foundation of Israel—God’s chosen nation, (3) the establishment of the Church—the Body of Christ, and the most incredible beginning of all, (4) people from every walk of life being born again by the power of the gospel. My personal perceptions and convictions have evolved from a background of thirty-three years using the scientific method in chemical research, and even longer exploring the eternal truths of the Bible as a Christian and minister. I might add that the practical experiences I gained as a husband, father of two girls, and bivocational pastor prevent my viewpoints from being too esoteric or theoretical in nature. Whether a casual reader or serious student of the Bible, I hope you find New Beginnings informative if not illuminating, interesting if not stirring, and encouraging if not inspiring. Finally, if your Christian fervor needs rekindling, my prayer is that these pages nourish and revitalize you—like a steaming bowl of my mother’s chicken soup on a cold, rainy day.
You Can Have a New Beginning! is an excellent full-bodied expose for new believers or seasoned believers who need a dash of refreshment. Filled with key strategies and principles that gives the reader a boost of spiritual encouragement, the well-told biblical stories are linked to everyday challenges. The author identifies satans tactics and gives practical solutions to overcoming the enemy s plans to thwart God-given destinies. Steps to restore fractured families, accept God s second chances, and for living a supernatural life are shared, as well as how to knock down the barriers and obstacles that may be standing in the way of an abundant spiritual, physical, financial, emotional, etc. life. The following quote is typical of well-known Bible stories told with a twist that motivates the reader: Zacchaeus needed a tree in order to meet his Savior. God planted that sycamore tree a long time before Zacchaeus needed it. I think God planted it there with Zacchaeus in mind. God planted a tree for you, too. It is the tree of Calvary. It is the spiritual tree to which you must come for your new beginning. God has planted the tree, but you must come to it and embrace it in order to have a new beginning.

On a year in the near future, at 7:15 p.m. on the 21st of October, the entire American government is wiped out by nuclear warheads. No one was sure who did it. As the first wave of attacks came, surviving Americans soon knew that both the Russians and Chinese, through a systematic infiltration of North America and a complete program of invasion, are the enemies. The survivors have to collect their wits, put up a defense, and harness all sorts of technological and material resources in order for America to survive and continue in The New Beginning, a vision of an America after a successful enemy nuclear attack. Fully a hundred million Americans did not survive the fi rst wave of attacks. Alexander James, then a civilian, is enlisted into the army. The United States, what is left of it, turns into a highly militarized and technologically conscious political entity to combat the oncoming hordes of Chinese and Russians. Fighting rages across the American continent, and Americans themselves are forced to think up all sorts of guerilla operations to momentarily stop the enemy juggernaut, regroup, and perhaps (in a vain hope)to defeat it. Years of fighting changes the remaining landscape of America. Buildings are built like fortresses, high technology forms a defensive border even over American skies, children study war in kindergarten, and society lives and dies by the strength of its war slogans and the will to take the fight to the enemy. Alexander James is absent from family life for years on end. He makes it to Colonel in the armed forces and is a pivotal personality in a desperate operation to stop the war totally by infi ltrating the Russian high command. He becomes a hero but refuses to be drawn in to the next presidential election, being disillusioned by what American society had become because of the war. This novel is the start of a riveting new saga of a future America fighting for its very survival.
